An SHPCL Cricket Team has won the National Village Cup Final at Lords for the 2nd time - and again it is Reed CC.
In a high quality Final, with a luckily mainly sunny day at Lords, Reed comprehensively beat last years NVC Winners Sessay CC from Yorkshire.
Winning the toss Reed Captain Tom Greaves asked Sessay to bat first,
Tight Reed bowling, and excellent ground fielding and catching kept Sessay under constant pressure and they could never establish any real momentum.
Sessay recovered somewhat from 81-6 to eventually post 164-9 in their 40 Overs.
Tom Greaves 8 Overs 3 -19, Karl Ward 8 Overs 2 - 35 and Mitchell Cooper 8 Overs 2-36 starred with the ball for Reed, whilst Stuart Smith took 2 catches, and Richard Wharton took 2 fine Leg Side Stumpings (both off “wides”!).
In reply Richard Wharton 86* starred for Reed and from 46-2 he and former skipper James Heslam 54 forged a stand of 107 to put Reed on the road to victory.
The win was sealed when Reed Skipper blasted a 6 into the Lords Pavilion to give Reed a 7 wicket win with 4.1 Overs to spare.
Richard Wharton was awarded the Man of the Match Trophy and Reed celebrated with a post-match dinner in the Lords Long Room.
