Peter Garratt Dies

April 7th, 2018

It is with great sadness that Eversholt Cricket Club shares the news that Life Member, Peter Garratt, passed away on the evening of 4th April, 2018.

Peter was in his own home and with his loved ones when he passed peacefully having finally succumbed to the health issues that he had been battling with in recent months. Importantly for Peter and his family, when the close of play finally came he was comfortable; he was in the place he most wanted to be and with people he most wanted to be with.

Peter was a well known and respected figure in local cricket and beyond. He will be missed by all that knew him.

During a 60-year association with Eversholt Cricket Club, although never playing on a regular basis, Peter fulfilled numerous roles that were all tackled with his trademark commitment and focus. A stickler for the details in life generally and specifically in the game he loved so dearly, he was a strong believer in doing things the 'right way' and that if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing properly. To this end, both the Club and the broader cricketing community benefited immeasurably from his contribution at different times as Secretary, Chairman, Umpire, Scorer, '100 Club' Promoter, Bar Man, Tea 'Lady', Match Ball Curator and Match Official Co-ordinator as well as numerous other official roles and positions for various Leagues and competitions locally. Additionally, all benefited from his constant willingness to take on any of the other endless list of jobs that simply need doing to keep a Club like ours going.

He was immensely proud to be associated with Eversholt Cricket Club and all that it entailed. Whether it was the National Village Cup final at Lords in 2000 or the most chaotic of U9 matches on a cold and windy Sunday morning played on a wicket marked on the outfield somewhere in rural Bedfordshire, it mattered not - the same standards would be applied and expected and the same amount of pleasure and pride derived.

We pass on our condolences and best wishes to Peter’s Wife, Jo and to their family who are all well known to many of you.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Peter Garratt's Life will take place at All Saints Church, Ridgmont on Friday, 11th May, 2018 at 1.30pm. Refreshments will follow at Eversholt Village Hall. Donations, if desired, will be shared equally between All Saints Church, Ridgmont and Eversholt Cricket Club. These can be made from Friday, 27th April, 2018 via www.memorygiving.com or passed in person to Paul, David or James Garratt.

We do hope you can attend to celebrate Peter's life and his outstanding contribution to Eversholt over many years.
